My opinion had nothing to do with getting an award, but if I attend a VW show I expect to see it judged fairly whether I am in it or not.

Re: Bugs At The Branch 3
We didn't take the bug and only dropped in for a short while, so we were gone way before judging started, so I have no idea how the judging went. But all in all, I thought it was a really good turnout. I'm amazed at all the new (to me) rides I keep seeing at each event.

Re: Bugs At The Branch 3
I call it like I see it....and like I said before it has nothing to do with me winning a trophy. I have trophies at the house. So you guys can just cut the wise guy stuff out.
1. The entire time I was there no one ever came over to judge my car or any of the other cars that were near my car.
2. There was an award for daily driver. How did they know which cars are daily drivers? There was nowhere on the entry sheet about it and no one asked.
3. There were a bunch of buggies out there, but no class for them. 1 Thing showed up and it got a class and won.

Re: Bugs At The Branch 3
Thanks to everyone that attended the show. Thanks you to the Clubs,Vendors and volunteers that made this show Great!!
EVERY car that was registered was judged the same way by the same set of judges. I am not involved in the judging process because I am busy with the show.
This show is about having fun and getting together. The proceeds go to charity not to buy trophies. If you came just to get a trophy, you came to the wrong show. If you did not win a trophy, you should compare your cars to the ones that did.
Thanks to all.
Billie

Out of all of the cars that attended the the show, only 36 registered. The trophies were purchased based on last years attendance.
We had 3 Things last year, so we had a class and a trophy. One showed up this year.........Hmmmm, who gets the trophy????
The 13 Trophies that were given out were given to the best cars.
Re: Bugs At The Branch 3
Well Dang, Jon. You bring a Thing and no one recognizes it as a Thing? Must be that Type IV engine throwing everyone off.

Re: Bugs At The Branch 3
I agree, I didnt go to get a trophy and I did go to hang with friends and also enter... I also stayed by my car and hade no one come by to judge it and that's a fact! Im not part of a club nor do I wnt to be. Im only speaking for myself If im not mistaken there was a girl with a clip board that walked down the middle of the street to the end of the cars and turned around and walked back and if you call that judgeing thats goods shit there! Not sure is she was the judge but if she was that what happened and if she wasnt no one walked around my car nor the other cars around me. All im saying if someone pays an entry fee it would be nice to get there car looked at!

Re: Bugs At The Branch 3
With all shows there are going to be ups and downs, and we all know its impossible to please everyone. I feel that Billy and the Stockornaut crew have done a pretty good job with these shows and will continue to improve them via any legitimate and (ie, not a sour-grapes type of) complaint. The continued growth of this show over the last 3 years seems to support this as well. As the local VW community, we all should support these events, by attending if possible, and even providing advice on improvements as needed. I am hoping that some of the replies in this thread are the latter, and are meant to be helpful and not slams on the event or the organizers. It is going to take some effort from everyone to keep the local VW scene alive and growing, and I think in the last few years we have came along way.
Now, enough of that. Here is some of my thoughts about shows:
I think it would be nice to just have a show with no pressure or judging. All entrants would get a nice little dash plaque to commemorate the event and this should satisfy the ones who would like some to bring home from the show. I think with out the added stress of competition, the show would take on a more relaxed and informal atmosphere.
Anyway, like I said it is up to all of us, if the Georgia VW scene is going to continue to flourish and grow, or just slowly fade away..........

Re: Bugs At The Branch 3
I understand what the complaint is about. I am not sure how the judging was done and I am not saying they were not judged. BUT, none of us (Aircooled Addicts) saw our cars get judged either. Some of the guys were getting upset because they know that their car didn't get judged. When you pay to enter your car in a show you like to see it judged and looked over. That has nothing to do with chasing trophies. Trophy or not you want to see your car judged correctly and timely. I never saw my Bug get judged nor did any of the rest of us. Again, I'm not saying they weren't and I am not complaining. I am just saying I understand. Our show we are puting on next Sat. I can guarntee you will see your cars judged properly.
I still had a great time and that's all that really matters in the end.

I agree completely. I've only been involved with the VW scene in GA for the past 3 years. I have never had a show car, but I have registered my car for every show I have ever been to. I do this to support the VW scene and the shows, if we want shows and we want top quality shows, judging, anything, we need to support them. With the number of VWs that showed up, I'm pretty disappointed that there were only 36 registered in the show. If I can scrape up $20 to enter my $800 bug I don't understand why others with much nicer cars can't do the same.
Re: Bugs At The Branch 3

Re: Bugs At The Branch 3
lets stop giving out trophies at shows- who needs them anyway- too much drama and too much cost for promoters to provide people with a piece of unsustainable junk.
sorry oi missed the show as well. It snuck up on me this year and i was up in the mountains camping out.

Sounds good to me. If someone won't come because there isn't a trophy...maybe they should stay at home anyway. Give everyone a sticker for the window and call it a day.

I wondered about that 'only one Thing' comment. I guess I'll put a flashing arrow above it next time.

It's funny that you say that, as something very similar was discussed as the awards were being given out on Saturday........
