Just bouncing an idea off everyone- feel free to chime in.

Wife and I are wanting to replace our carpet in the beetle, and recently we re carpeted our basement. I've got a bunch of leftover carpet felt (underlayment)....its pretty good stuff.

What do you guys think about using it as sound dampener/ padding under new carpeting. I;m worried a bit that it might create a trimming/ curling problem with the new carpet. May just have to wait until install time and see how it goes.

on the other hand, I dont know enough to know the differences in this stuff and what I could order- I just happen have this already, sitting in my attic.

BTW, thanks to Billie, "puddin" has apparently stuck for now as the car's name. Thanks for the fun cruise in on Friday night.

we'l try to get out there. I felt like crap last week but we went anyways. Glad I did though, driving in that little thing is a blast. But---if I can get the wife to drop it down low it may need a aggro name.....maybe "flesh bomb".... Rolling Eyes

I didn't want to order a custom color for my car and Home Depot had a carpet that matched perfect. It's a utility rug that comes in 6'x8' roll, $18.95. I only bought one roll and it took a little more than a roll so get two rolls if ya go this route.
Use contact cement in gel form like this...

That contact cement works great for headliners also. Let it dry to the touch on both pieces and then make sure it is where you want it when the two pieces make contact b/c it's there!!!!
I think it turned out great.....

I went to Charlotte, NC and on the way back I stopped at like 6 different Depots and didn't score. Finally found a runner at Lowe's. Geek will have this in it only it will be the gray/pepper color.

The silver stuff is roofing sealer, Quick Rook. Cheap sound damping, way cheaper than Dyna-mat! It doesn't smell and sticks great....

Here are the pieces, installed in this order....
Tunnel
Heater Channels
Front kick panels
Firewall
Front mat area
Rear mat area

All these areas overlap, the first being on the bottom and the last on top. So the mat areas will show the edges.

The luggage area would be the sides first then the bottom, edges will show. The carpet kits for our cars are not that high grade carpet but they have the binding on the edges that give it a more finished look.
