Re: 4 lug to wide five adapters
CIP1 sells these and says they are 1/2 inch thick.
http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=ACC-C10-6709
But it'd be over $100 for a set of 4. I believe you can use 66-67 drums/backing plates up front to get wide 5 without using adapters. See this thread.

Re: 4 lug to wide five adapters
Only problem is he already has dropped spindle disc brakes and doesn't want to go back to drum. The rear is easy, just change drums. If it added a 1/2 inch per side, who cares with a 5 inch narrowed beam?

The rear is easy, just change drums. You can just buy new wide 5 drums for a 67 or thing drums and they will slide right over your existing brakes.

Re: 4 lug to wide five adapters
Here's my 2 cents....
On my '64 I went with 4 bolt on the rear and will use adapters to get back to wide 5. Reason is the '64 drums are 30mm wide and the 4 bolts are 40mm wide. I wanted wider drums for better stopping power. I'm running disk and these 40mm on O'Bugga and he stops very well.
I'm going to run the 40's on the '64 rear and stock size, which I think are already 40mm, on the front.
All that being said I'd go the adapter route and keep the wider drums and your disks. If you ever want to go back just take them off. I think the adapters will only push the wheels out the thickness of the adapter, 1/2" or so.
Just a side note, if you use the wide 5 on the rear you will need a spacer on the axle b/c the early axles are short and the later ones are long. Most volks just use the inner spacer that the seal rides on as the spacer to get the nut to tighten up.

Re: 4 lug to wide five adapters
On the back you have to change out drum and shoes. And run a spacer between the axle nut and drum. That's what I had to do on the sploval its a 69 pan
