Speedometer Recalibration?

Post by vet02 on Sun May 02, 2010 8:44 pm

Hello,

I've searched the forums but can't find the location of any speedometer repair/calibration shops in Georgia. Is anyone aware of any good shops in Georgia or elsewhere? I just replaced the faceplate on my speedo and need it calibrated. Thanks for any help.

does it have a calibration mark on the face plate like the original?

"The needle just pops off, carfully pry up on it as close to the center as you can get, if you can get like some kind of forking tool (or a fork!) under it that would be ideal. But if yours is that brittle now, it might not want to come off without further breakage.

If you take it off, you need to make careful note of where the needle is pointing. Because if you get put it back on the wrong spines, the accuracy won't even be close to being right. The pretension of the needle is what sets up the calibration. Later speedometers had a mark on the speedo face just past the peg for alignment purposes. Me, I always liked to run the speedo via a cable put into a reliable drill, and see what speed it would show at full (reverse) speed, that way I'd have a benchmark to verify I got the needle back on again correctly.

Here's a picture that shows a late model speedo with the little alignment mark on the face.
