Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
I'm venting here.....
Saw a card in my front door jam and guess what, Code Enforcement! Yeah Ross has struck again, I'm sick of this so called neighbor riding my ass about my crap in my yard. Code officer agreed that it was nicely parked in the back yard but that according to the law it must be tagged and operable. This means two cars must be moved, I'm so pissed that I'd like to go over and punch him right in the nose. Come over to my house and act like a damn man and ask me to move the darn thing, don't be a coward and call Code Enforcement! He's a DICK! Even my neighbor on my other side agreed, He's a DICK!.
We are so having a VW Bonfire at my house!!! Bring everyone you know and every VW you own and park on the street (Not in his Yard) and we'll have nice Xmas party!

Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
can you put up fence panels around them? Alex on here had the same problem, worked great for me since everytime CE came around it meant a new car at my house!! He put up some wooden fence panels to stash his in. maybe you can do the same. Or if you have the cash, put up a 12' wall on his side only, paint it pink, with purple strips and a few rainbows. Just on the side facing his house of course!!
Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
Here in Gwinnett county it doesn't matter if you have a fence or not. No inoperable vehicles are allowed to be parked on the property. They are considered abandoned. There is a law to be voted on again next year to limit the amount of vehicles parked in the driveway to 4. This was all brought on by the Hispanic population and the multiple family households.
I have no information about your situation but I have to play devils advocate here. We have a neighbor across the street that we had to call the Gwinnett County code enforcement on. We live in a coveted neighborhood and the failure to abide by these covenants directly affect my quality of life and value of my home. They had 8 cars, 2 trailers, a washer and 2000ft of 6" PVC pipe in the back yard. It's a mother, her 5 boys and 4 of their friends living there so at any given time there was 10 cars in the drive, yard and street. I believe we were just in taking action on these ass hats.

Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
what are you supposed to do with your cars? I thought the reason you bought/rented a home is a place to put all of your stuff, and live of course. I say if they have a problem with where our cars are stored then they should pay for a place to store them

Dude, sorry to hear that. if you have the $$$, perhaps you can build a small two car shed, just to roll them into, to hide, so that they legally can't do shit. and yes, i love the idea of erecting a fence, and painting it purple with pink polka dots, and maybe a giant red VW logo in the middle. i'm up for a party. i have a busted 40horse case we can burn. i bet he'll love that . tho the dick will prolly call the popo on us, lol. And i'm sure he'll love my car, with no exhaust . i'll be sure to bo a burn out on his lawn before i leave , jk (unless you want me too)

Vehicle Parking
The Gwinnett County Zoning Resolution contains restrictions about the parking of vehicles at a residence. In any residential district, the parking of any vehicle except on a hard surfaced driveway, or in a carport or garage is prohibited. A hard-surfaced driveway means one that is either paved with asphalt or concrete or that contains adequate, hard-packed gravel that is bordered with landscape timbers, railroad ties, brick or a rock wall to sufficiently define and contain the parking area.
Junk Vehicles
A junk vehicle is defined as any vehicle, automobile, truck, van, or trailer of any kind or type that is abandoned, wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled, inoperative, or has no current tag.
The Gwinnett County Property Maintenance Ordinance does not permit junk vehicles or vehicle parts to be kept on private property or on public streets in the unincorporated areas of the County. A junk vehicle may be kept at a residence as long as it is kept in a fully enclosed building. Fully enclosed buildings do not include open carports.

Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
I here ya Scott, I feel the same way. We too have covenants and we have folks that go overboard with things. The Code Officer in a joking way asked me what I've done to the guy. Well nothing but I'm a do-it-yourselfer and I think he is just down right jealous. I was laying tile in our kitchen, out back cutting the tile and he yells from the deck and says"What are you doing now?". He then asked if there was anything that I couldn't do and I replied "If so I haven't found one yet". Smart ass I guess, didn't mean for it to sound that way.
I don't like the clutter and all the cars either. We have a ton of folks in and out at our house and I have to be the ASS and remind everyone to park in the street. Kids these days have thick skulls!!!
As far as the cars, I have a green tarp over the '68, So I can't see it! And the ,64 looks like it is parked just inside the fence. The problem is that from Ross' deck you can see the top of the '64.
Gordon I'd love to build a shop at the end of my drive. It would block his view of my back yard and our patio.
Here's something else that is funny. We have some Mexicans that live on a side street. I drive by their house twice a day and their yard is perfect. The thing is they have three paint vans, you never see them unless they are about to park them behind the fence. Their house is really nice they moved in and improved the place.
At any rate, I have a large lot and it is woods in the back. I could hide the '68 back their but at some point I'd have to move it, it is in my way as well. So it will go either way. Thanks for the offer Gordon. I went by your house on Tuesday by the way!

Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
Gwinnett County sucks. I've had code enforcement at my old house 2 times. Why. As you all know I have the '65 bug and a '65 mustang - both of which are running driving vehicles. I also have 2 teenagers with vehicles, I have my truck, my wife has her car and at the time we had a full size van we used for our family vacations. Well obviously the driveway was not large enough for all of these vehicles so my Van -this was 2006 and my van was a 2001 - only 5 years old - very nice and clean almost new. I had it parked next to the garage in the yard not on pavement. So they gave me 15 days to get it out of the hard. It was neatly parked, not an eyesore. But some prick down the street called code enforcement.
So - now we park on the street - that is not against the law. NICE!! What dumbarses.

Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
hey bob. if you want to build a small shed just big enough to park the two cars in, i'll give ya a hand. the law says a fully enclosed structure, right? soo, some 2X4's and plywood, a few nails, some nice paint and a 12 pack of coke, and we'll have an encloser up in no time . maybe on the side facing him, we could paint a big VW logo

Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
If we have a Bonfire it will be by the law, He's not going to get me again. I will check with all the authorities first so he can say a thing. Cases burned yes, home made bombs NO! Sorry. If need be I'll have all permits needed. I want to take the wind from his sails!

Don't bother with the plywood. Make the walls out of plexiglass so it's enclosed but your neighbor can still see it

Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
Most of you guys that were at the bonfire know that I got that 63 ragtop from Bryce, last Saturday. Well, I bring it home Saturday night, park it in the lower driveway in front of my shop, still on the trailer. I don't have time Sunday to unload it and put it out of sight from the road. That Saturday morning before getting the bug, I had just hauled off Drew's wrecked honda. I still have my brother-in-law's Thing (liscenced and insured and operable) parked under the carport on my shop. So, Wednesday, I get home and get a call from the Paulding County Marshalls office. One of my nieghbors called them complaining about the Honda, Thing, and a dark colored VW Bug, taht is "junk" visible from the street. Now I have never even met this man since I moved in last January. Been here a year and he's going to start whining to the county about my cars, when he don't even have his facts staight. Why can't people just man up and talk to the people they're having issues with and matbe find out what the circumstances are before F@#$%^g up someones day and making enemies without ever meeting them?

Sorry to hear this Tim, I know how you feel. It sux!
Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
I have to say that Code Enforcement should be called only as a last resort, neighbors should talk to each other and try to resolve issues like cars parked around someone's house. Here in Gwinnett, like Scott says, we'd see 6 white Ford vans with 9 ladders each parked in the front yard of some of the tiny rental houses, it's an eyesore!!

Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
I was forced to sell two vehicles because of a neighbor when I lived in Rockdale county.
Since code enforcement only gave me ten days to move them I had to litterally give them
away. He was a retired Captain of the Highway Patrol working as an officer of the
Rockdale court part time. Both vehicles were behind fencing in my back yard.
I believe he's the one who did it because of an incident years earlier when I first moved in.
I had a pro gas big block Camaro. It was Saturday afternoon when I cranked a new engine
I had built. It takes about twenty minutes of running when first cranked to properly
"run in" a new engine. You have to keep it above two thousand RPM's and keep blippping
the throttle above two thousand but not letting go below that number. After about ten
minutes of running he came into my driveway on a dead run screaming, "Shut it off!
Shut it off right now our I'll call the Police." I told him,
"I can't it's a new motor and it's necessary to insure the life of the motor." He left and a
about fifteen minutes later a patrol car pulled into his driveway across the street.
I saw him and the officer talking and he gestured toward me. By that time it was over and
I had shut it off.
The officer then came down my driveway and approached me saying, "You sure put a bee in his bonnet.
He wants me to arrest you for disturbing the peace." I asked, "Are you going to?" He said, "Nope,
it's afternoon and therefore you have a right to run in your motor." Then he started asking questions
about the car. It turns out he used to drag race. Also he said he didn't like the guy. He noticed I was
running headers with four inch collectors and stated, "I'll bet when you fired that puppy up it rattled
his windows." I laughed and said,"Yea probably so but I finished the install last night and waited
patiently until this afternoon knowing it was going to be loud before I cranked it." Admittedly it
is loud as hell. It was killing my ears to the point I was watching the time wishing the "run in"
was over. He warned me not to crank it very often and left.

Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
I did the same thing last year when I installed my rebuilt 1600. I closed the garage door just for Ross. The new header had this coating on it and it smoked really bad. After about ten minutes I was forced to open the garage door.

Re: Do unto others as you would have done unto you!!
i had the same problem. it was with the old people who lived across the street. the whole mess started with their annoying cats. they had around 20 stray cats living around their house. after weeks of those frigin cats shitting all over my yard, i came to them and told them very nicely, that the cats are all over my yard, and there was shit everywhere. they were sorry, and said they'd keep the cats inside. of course, a few weeks later the same thing. i asked them again, and they said they'd take care of it. of course they did nothing, so i ended up calling animal control, and they set traps all over the yard, and have so far captured 23 cats (ALL ON RECORD). when they found out they were angry, because all the cats that were captured were uthanized. they managed to get 2 cats back before they were uthanized, and they had to pay over $200 for them. sure enough, a few weeks later they were caught again, and uthanized. smy other neighbor (really cool mustang guy), was tired of all the cats. his pitbull killed one once, when the cat got in his yard, but gave the pitbul some nasty scratches. anyhoo, he captuered 17, and i've personally captured 21 (aside from the 23 from animal control), we took them to random far away animal control's (so she wouldn't find them).
So thats a total of 61 cats, over the span of a year, and a half . we later found out, the old lady was luring stray cats at kroger, and ingles, and taking them home. none of the cats had any shots, and many of the cats appeared to have rabies or something, cuz the cats would sometimes sit there, and do crazy things, like meowing wierdly, and falling down (as if they were drunk), and some of them appeared to have mainge or something, cuz some had missing hair, and bloody looking rashes. we've even found the occasional dead cat. it was really sad.
anyhoo, since then they have tried everything to get me in trouble. She even found my myspace page, and started writing me hateful, racist, messages (im telling you, this old lady is psyco). once they were on the side of the road, and the old lady yelled something at me, which i then proceded to cus her out. i started putting on a "crazy, punk, i'm-gonna-harm-you-and-not-care-about-the-concequenses, tough guy" kinda attitude (faking the whole time of course), and she got scared, thnking i was gonna punch her or something. it was hilarious. one time she even chased me down in her POS taurus. i slammed on the brakes, and she almost hit me. i then sped to a gas station, where she got out of the car, and started yelling at me, along with her grandson. i then put the tough guy act on again, started acting like i was crazy. they both got scared. (HE WAS HIDING BEHIND HER ). she didn't mess with me for a while after that.
anyhoo, later on she called the police on us, about all the VW's, and a 5th wheel camper i have in the yard. all i did was roll the VW's into my workshop (3 of them, lol), and got a tag on the 5th wheel. the 5th wheel is a pile. its a 70's model gladding del ray, which has aluminum siding. the back part is peeling off, and its just a wreck. she called the cops again (who were getting tired of her calling), and said they can't do anything, since its tagged, even tho its in an obvious state of disrepair, lol. then we started talking about the old lady. the cops even said to me "how can they live like that, the inside of their house, smells like cat pee, and poop". we all just starting having a big laugh, which pissed her off even more. they got so pissed, that they moved away. Mission accomplished .
Sorry rant over
