I've got a '63, it's a little rough, I'd take $15

Are you wanting this just for display, or possible to put on the front of your car? The cut-off year to legally run these on the rear of the car is 1970 and older. Just don't want you to pay a lot for one only to find out you can't use it.

Also, I don't think you'll find a tag with a stamped "74". 1971 was the last year they stamped the year into the tag. So in 1972, you just got a 71 tag with a 72 sticker placed on it, and then in 73, you just put a new sticker on it, and so on.

In 76, they did again stamp the year in the tag, but that was only for 1976, and each year after just got another sticker.

I didn't know all that. Except that the 76 tag was stamped. I have one still on a 61 beetle that I have. I guess I wont use a 74 tag if it cant be done. Thanks for the heads up!

I think that the '63 auto plates had 1-2 numbers then a letter as the first few digits.
I have a ratty, but solid '63 and it is 1D - ### Since it is red and white every one kept asking me why I was running a dealer plate DL - ####.

My plate will be for sale or trade since I am looking for a '62 for my current Low ans Slow project...

The first numbers are the county code, so there could be three numbers since Georgia has a ridiculous amount of counties compared to other states.

134 was Oconee County in 1964. Just assuming it's the same for 63

You want this green

The first or second color code looks closest to me

Bring a color code to a home depot or other paint store or have them scan the first green to get their own code on it for the exact paint. Also, getting a sample of paint would be more than enough paint to do 20 plates and would only cost about $4. Good luck.

I had a 68 green plate I repainted- I used House of Color urethane (pinstriping paint) green. I think I might have added  little white, and a dash of yellow. Straight from the can would be a little too 'evergreen' I think. I remember the back of the plate had a good condition color I used to match.
