un-brazing preheater flanges?
I have a new German muffler, and a new single port intake, and the preheat flange holes are off by 1/4" on the 1-2 side. I'm used to elongating the holes a bit to get the bolts to fit, but this time it's off the map. The hole would need to become a slot exiting the side of the flange (don't want to butcher it completely).
The flange is brazed on the tube. Can I heat it enough to loosen the braze and remove the flange, for repositioning? Anyone ever un-braze something successfully?
thanks,
Clyde

Re: un-brazing preheater flanges?
You can but keep the heat moving. Heat the male part first. You can break the flux skim with a screwdriver to start the change from solid to liquid. You will need an oxygen acetylene torch. Propane and Map gas will not burn hot enough.

Thanks Scott. You answered the question I didn't bother to type. Looks like I'll be end milling slots in this thing, 'cause all I have is propane.
