Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
My brake job wasn't much more successful... I set out to replace the discs, drums, pads, shoes and those seals that go on the tube from res 1 to res 2... only to find that my rubber brake lines were leaking... I guess they are 4 or 5 years old so perhaps it is time... but I really thought they lasted a bit longer than that... oh well, at least I found out the easy way! So I went ahead and replace the first rotor and pads... yeah the pads were GONE... the other caliper doesn't want to compress for me and I cannot find my disc brake spreader... so I will pick another one up when I get the replacement hoses on Monday... hopefully they can get them all by then... no one seemed to have the rear hoses in stock (except Jerome) so I am going to wait on that... I am going to be pushing it to have this done to go to SC in a couple weeks... but I think I will make it... and oh so much safer!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I know the history on your bus and how much you've driven it. So the fronts are worn down? You might want to check your proportioning valve. Usually you can get 30-50k off of pads and 100k+ on shoes. A 1/2-1/3 ratio for wear. You are nowhere close to the mileage needed for the fronts so sounds like the pv is failing and your using the fronts only for brakes.
Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Washed Java and Jade. Buffed out Java's roof and most of the hood.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got the "new" engine in the bus this week. About a hundred miles and so far so good. Seems weak after running the 1776 for a month or so. Still have some fine tuning to do. Maybe I can squeeze another HP or two out of it when it's dialed in.
27 days till spring...time to get the buggy back in shape and get the square on the road.

Didn't you hear? it's national fix your brakes weekend...
j/k
seriously though, I am glad I checked mine as I had no idea that they were leaking... just squealing... and they did have well over 30k miles on them just from me driving... but those were the pads that were on the bus when i got it 5 years ago

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Got all the holes welded up on the german look. The nail trick works great. Almost done grinding all down then comes a skim coat of filler. I need to close up the vents behind the rear quarter windows and the exhaust cut outs. Moved it in and the wifes car out in case it rains.

Jim to your reply on the nail trick
Here is a link that I put on Youtube.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Keep up the progress votwing. I got the back seat mounted, windshield wipers installed, adjusted the carb, found my exhaust leak at the heaterboxes, and also put the mirror arm back on the passenger side. Now to find a mirror to go on it.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
Looks like they took out the engine and probably the transmission before shredding.

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I should say "What the bug did to me today"
After cutting out the door hinge pillar and fitting the new one, I was using the grinder smoothing out the cuts when the grinder attacked. The results it cut open my nuckle. What was funny, it didnt bleed but it was cool I could see the bone. Went to the Dr. ended up with stitches, and a cut tendon and the grinder got into the bone a bit. Got to go back tomorrow for an xray. I cant let this slow me down though. Just a day in the life of an addict

Are you fresh out of blood?
I replaced my broken points (yes broken) in the parking lot at work... they started flopping around at speeds higher than second gear (whatever those are my speedo hasn't worked since bugjam 08)... luckily I carry a spare... now time to buy a new spare!

Re: What did you do to your volkswagen today?
I intended to drive the waterbug to the Stockornaut cruise but when I went to crank it the battery was dead. I put my smart charger on it and it coded that there was a dead cell. I went in my wife's ScionXB. Still had a good time.
