3 point belts Empty 3 point belts

Post by zabo Fri Sep 26, 2008 9:01 am

i've been kinda wary of getting on the highways in my unseatbelted 60.

I just purchased some 3 point belts from Wolfsburg West.

Does any body have any recommendations on places that could weld in some mounts for me? (pref close by)
Should any bodyshop be able to do this or do i need to look for a place that does more custom fab work?

thanks

If you or a friend has a welder, you could do it yourself following this page. (You may have already seen this)

Definitely a good investment. I just added 3 points to my 62 and do feel more comfortable driving it. I think 62 was the first year that the mounting locations were provided at the factory so I got lucky.

Yes, that whole site is a great read.

Zabo, yeah, it is supposed to be as secure as possible, so I understand if you don't want to try it yourself, (though I bet you could do it with a little practice Smile ) Hopefully you will never need to test these welds, but better safe than sorry.

One last tip (something I would do different if I ever do it again). You don't already have a shoulder mount like I did. Don't place this mount to low. Mine is below the top of the front seatback. This means the belt has to go up over the seatback and then back down across my chest. Do to the fact that it goes up then down it sometimes wants to slip off my shoulder and fall to the side of the seat. Make sure you get that mount up above the seatback. I'm not sure if you need to go quite as high as John did on the Bugshop, but definitely go higher than mine.
