Looking for a new motor

I'm looking for a new motor for my bug. Mine a let go this weekend. I want to go bigger than the stock 1300 I have now. Let me know if you have anything.

That sux. 1300 is a pretty reliable engine and can be bumped up. You can bolt 1600 heads, pistons, cylinders, etc. to it. If you do it all yourself aside from the line boring, you can come out pretty good. Unless you have a rod sticking out of the case. I have found that buying used motors these days is getting crazy. People asking $1000 and up for unknown engines, and then rebuilding it. Doesn't make sense.

Yeah that's what I have found and a turn key motor is as much as a whole car. Not sure what I'm going to do yet.

Whats wrong with the 1300? Is it knocking? Rod come loose?
