Glad to have found this site. I recently returned back to Warner Robins, GA after retiring from the military. Good to be home, meet others that share the great appreciation and love for VW's.

Figured I'd post my stand still yet beloved '63 Ragtop Bug . So, here are a few pics. I've taken her mostly apart...pan seperated, almost all apart. The fun begins, much to be done.

Keep Bug'n,

Joe

Thanks to Mr. Conner aka Slim Jim I'm a proud owner of this '64 sliding Sunroof car. Mr. Conner I can't believe it but its in my drive way thanks so much for parting with her. I'll take good care of her.

The first thing my wife asked me was, "Was it a German Police Car?" So with that I think we'll call it PoPo for now.

Last Saturday me and big bro went up to Athens and picked up a buggy (Thanks Shane) damn good price. It does have some issues, the pans are toast, passenger side of the tunnel is rusted out and several holes drilled in the body.

So Sunday we started the work. Got the body off and the pans cut out. Built a tube chassis and cut the bad part of the tunnel and patched, put in new pans, then built the roll cage.

The goal is to have her on the road by the end of August at a cost of under ...

The story on how I got the bus goes like this. My buddy Duck, another story in it self, knew about two buses on a farm in Barnesville and he said that he was going to get them. He kept saying that same story for over a year. I never seen the buses and just thought it was another tale. I did tell him that I was interested in one of them and the day that he got them to let me know I would probably buy one. Love the look of those rear tires. they are 31/10.5/15LT's

And before anyone starts asking if i'm selling the spindle wheels, they are both shot. One is missing about 6 inches of the lip of the rim (rusted away), and the other has a nickel sized rust hole:

I have been slowly working on my 1969 Bay Window Deluxe. I am on a budget, and my goal is to make it look like a rat rod/hoodride. Nothing fancy, but driveable. I purchased the Bus for $200 with an engine. I sold the engine, so the bus is practicaly free. I put the running engine of my 67 beetle. Here are some before and after pictures. Still lots of work to do, but hopefully it will be drivable in a few weeks.

My original project...3+ years in the making so far.

Started as my '68 which I delivered pizzas in for a few years to make ends meet.

Broke it down and shortened the pan teaching myself to weld in the process.

The pan is done and (at one point) was clean enough to eat off of.

Fabbed up a roll bar for it.

And test fit the body.

Now all it needs is some serious body work, electric, and an engine plugged in to be a street beast.

Was able to get out today and shoot a few pics. I picked up this 66 Deluxe the day after the Reynolds show. It is a former show/magazine Bus, was in Vw Trends, July 1990 issue. It was in storage from 92 - 06 and only driven a few times from 06 to 09. It needed a good going over and a few minor things done and there were some electrical issues to sort out, (thanks Tronview, now I owe ya twice!!)

I think the replacement of the headlight switch will correct the remaining electrical problems (thanks ...

Here is my 68 Cal look Bug, I just got it painted last year. The windows and tail lights are now installed. I've owned this car since 1998 and have drove it cross country several times (not with the current motor and tranny). I drove it up to the Carrolton show from Warner Robins a couple of weeks ago. Still need to get some T-bars and running boards.

So whats up? My name is Josh and this is my first bug. I got her about a month ago. These pics are of the day I picked her up. Bought her from Tim's Vw Repair. I started working right away. So far I have most of the paint and primer gone. Want that true rust to shine thru! Next on the list is to teach her how to sit, tires and paint the wheels. Tell me what you think!
