 | Subject: My Gas Tank is a TACO... Mon Aug 10, 2009 11:59 pm | |
| so heres the story.... went to the bank friday to put in my check. i come outside and my gas door is open, cap missing. so that really pissed me off. i drive it capless to autozone and wow, they have ONE cap left that will fit a 68. 5 bucks and its mine, im happy lol. fast forward to tonight... driving down the road, i hear a loud PLUMP in the trunk and the car almost immediatly dies. i coasted off the road, and looked inside it. my gas tank is folded in at both front corners. undo the gas cap and POP it shoots out and kinda hits me in the stomache lol. apparently my awesome cheap autozone cap doesnt have a breather on it. so my gas tank imploded itself. i need a new tank, sending unit (probably) and definately an oem 68 cap. THANKS A**HOLE THAT STOLE MY CAP, you wrecked my car. kyle came to the rescue and got me a red jug of gas, and i drove it hope capless (again). YAY... |

| Just take a compressor and blow it back up. If it's a '68 the tank should also have a vent line and the only way it should've imploded like that is if that line is blocked. Make sure you clear you line before you attatch it to the new tank or you might run into the same problem again unless you insure the cap is vented. _________________ Of course I drive it every day... and stop calling me Shirley.

I would correct the vent while your at is._________________ Scott Burel "Call me if I need you" 71 Standard Beetle, "Big Bird" 74 Westfalia, "Winifrid" www.burelphotography.com**Future CS Club Member** |

Lol, not so fast numb nuts. The vent line is the clear tube hooked to the gas filler tube. You uncapped some nipple on the entire other side of the tank...
Lol :] |

Screw the cap, shove a rag in there and call it good, the rag will let the tank vent into the atmosphere. _________________ Drip'n DriverJoeSgt/USMC GSE Mech "Toby" the 1959/60 BUG: 2187cc daily driver<------ traded to Tito for Jana the the 60 blue bug 2005 Jetta GLI: Kristy's car, Stage 1 clutch | Bugman114 wrote: | | i couldn't believe how much ass it hauled . |
