PostSubject: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day   Wed Jul 22, 2009 6:50 am

We as a club have an opportunity to see what we can accomplish in a day before we start on a club project car.

Scott, whom many of us met last month at Sonic, has a 79 Bus that he wants to convert into a rolling ad for breast cancer awareness. He has driven it and says that it runs rough and needs the brakes checked. He has a guy who is going to handle painting it pink. He also said that if we put some time into it that when it is finished he would include an acknowledgment on the bus for the club's work. (Good PR)

I talked it over with Bryce and a few other club members and there seems to be quite a bit of interest. Please post if you would be interested, and which upcoming Saturday or Sunday would work best for you.

Thanks!

Hey everyone it's Scott...I have the bus for this project. That's a great response by all of you guys! I guess Gordon is heading things up on date/dates? The only Saturday that I have where I will not be available is the 15th of August. I really look forward to working with all of you and seeing if there is a cure for VW fever. I am not interested in being treated for VW fever......just wondering![img][/img]

I'm definitely up for helping out. Unfortunately, my next three weekends are pretty booked up though. Ya'll just set a date, and I'll try to re-organize whatever I have so that I can make it out and lend a hand.

Lets plan on the 22nd of August for now. That looks like a good weekend for those who have replied, and gives Scott nearly a month to determine what our plan of attack on the bus should be. It may be a good idea for a few of us to get together and give him a hand in doing that. Maybe after Sonic on the 8th?

Id like to give a hand, not sure how much help I would be! It would be a good time to learn some things and its for a great cause. My mom is actually a BC survivor.

Any pics of the bus now?

lol, i think that goes for me too. never worked on a bay before, but tell me what to do and i'll do it. are we just gonna copletely redo the brake system (new MC, hoses, shoes, hardware, etc.), or is it just a simple bleeding, and maybe new shoes? any specifics on that yet? or is the 8th really just gonna be inspection day?

Also the 22nd will prolly be perfect for me, because i can request that day off of work since the schedule hasn't been made yet, so i'll prolly be able to work on the bus all day. Can't wait cheers

and X2 about the pics. LETS SEE 'EM Laughing

I'm thinkin' inspection day on the 8th and then actual work on the 22nd. I don't know if Scott has photos, but if not I'll take some on the 8th.

Scott here! I have been cleaning out a nice work area in the garage to begin the breast cancer bus project. I guess I'll get it up and get the wheels off and make it do-able to inspect the brakes and suspension. I will get pictures up of it before I start breaking it down. If there is anyone that wants to come by whenever and put in there 2 cents worth please come on. My cell # is 404-401-0139. I live at 35 Melody lane, Stockbridge, GA 30281. I am off every weekend and home after church on Sunday. I am really excited about this project. This is the very first time I have ever seen ANY interest in the VW's from my wife. This is going to be a real head turner and a great way to get out the message on breast cancer as well as Air-cooled Airheads and Georgia Dubs. By the way ....how do you put pictures up on this forum...I have tried before but no success. I hope to talk or see you guys soon, Scott
The 22nd is great but I will be tinkering on most weekends! I will plan on the 8th also!

howdy. the only way to post up pics is to have them on an online picture hosting site (ex. photobucket, myspace, thesamba, etc.). then all you do is copy the URL of the pic (ex. www.website.com/your_pic.jpeg), click the button with the picture on it (7th button from the right), paste it in the box that pops up and hit "OK".

BTW, i live like 10 mins from you. and will actually be going down swanlake, and old conyers in like 15 mins (going to popeye's afro ). so if you happen to read this before then, call me at 404-219-7174, and i'll stop by and take a quick look..... Hell, i'll prolly drive by anyway, lol.

PostSubject: Re: Breast Cancer Bus Tech Day   Fri Jul 24, 2009 9:51 pm

just came back from scott's house. Got a look at the bus. It has an almost perfect interior, and the body is in excellent shape. a little surface rust here and there, and there are only a few rusted thru holes, but that looks like it might have just been a scratch that wasn't taken care of, and eventually rusted thru, because the rusted thru holes are only about a pea size wide, and the rust only about a silver dollar size. The rest of the body will prolly shine nice if waxed (yeah its that nice). So we won't be working on a pile or anything Laughing . It looks like all it will need to stop is a bleeding. might need rubber lines, but they didn't seemed cracked or anything, so we'll see.

Also the motor wouldn't stay running. i heard somewhere that those late model bus engines are notorious for developing that problem, but can't remember what part it was. Any of you bus guys can chime in on the subject.

this is gonna be a fun project for sure. can't wait to start tearing into it Razz
