| I can't wait to hear it run! I'll try to find a day next week to come by the shop to see it. _________________ Jason ------ 1960 VW Beetle - Bagged ------ Aircooled Addicts www.aircooledaddicts.org------ | Jake Raby wrote: | | Breaking a tranny is the best compliment an engine builder can receive. |

You really don't want to know. I worked on it all day Mon. and Tues. I finally fired it up on Tues. afternoon for the first time. I ran it for 25 min. to break it in and all seemed good. Then I had problems getting it to start again. Finally found that my starter was week. Replaced it and I was good again. I checked the valves and reset them. Started it back up and let it run while I dialed in the carbs and set the timing but it got real noisy again. So.. I checked the valves and they were loose again. I had to adjust them again and then it was good. I left about 10:30 last night to head home and it just didn't have the power I was expecting but maybe I was expecting to much. About 10 min. down HWY.78 it started losing power and then knocking real bad. I quickly killed the motor and pulled over. Now I am going to have to tear the motor back down to find out what happened. Untill then I spent today rebuilding my old motor to stock and I am putting it in tomorrow morning. Very disappointing to say the least but that is the way it goes sometimes, especially when your building a "hot rod" motor. |

| That sucks - make's me very nervous also. I already had similar issues the first time I tried to build my 1200 with the big bore pistons alone, this time I'm going with 1300 DP heads on the 1200 even more to go wrong. Hope all works out - if I can help in any way let me know. _________________ My name is Eric and I'm an Addict Aircooled Addicts www.aircooledaddicts.org'65 Beetle '65 Mustang '39 Chevy Business Coupe

| Thanks guys. It's just one of those thing I guess. I rebuilt the old motor yesterday and put it in this morning. It is running great so at least I am on the road again. Now I just need to find out what went wrong on the other one. I will definately post what I find. |

| Oh man Gary that is terrible!! Do you think it was a clearance issue like I found with mine? I really feel for you! _________________ Jason ------ 1960 VW Beetle - Bagged ------ Aircooled Addicts www.aircooledaddicts.org------ | Jake Raby wrote: | | Breaking a tranny is the best compliment an engine builder can receive. |

| I don't think it was a clearance problem but I don't know that for sure. I really think that the stock style lifters couldn't handle the dual valve springs and lift. It's either that or a defect in the product. |

| Man that sucks.... I don't have anything around the house that would fit your motor to help you restart the build or you could have it. Sorry _________________ 1964 Beetle 1966 Kombi Bryce

| Thanks Bryce. I'll get it going again soon. We have another 76 stroke crank and rods at work so I just need to order the lifters and I think I am going to add straight cut cam gears this time. Thanks again for the support. |
