Thanks to the Athens club and their tech weekend, Volkstock III, I was able to finish the front suspension rebuild and lowering strut installation on my 71. I started the rebuild a while back and was documenting it in the detailed repairs forum but ran out steam on it. I think some pics were taken during Volkstock and I will add them to the other thread as soon as I have them. Overall the install went pretty well. It was quite the task to complete it in one day, but I had alot of help from some very knowledgeable members of the Athens club, mainly Lake Jim and Joe who stuck with it to the end!
So the rebuild went well, the calculations for the tire clearance was close, I can drive without rubbing, but just barely!! I plan to put a little smaller tire on the front and that should fix it. One thing to remember tho, is to always tighten the lug nuts when you are done!!

I can tell ya that it is a little disconcerning when you are tooling down the road at 3:00 AM and your tire comes off!! Oh well, I was able to stop just before going over a 30 - 40 foot embankment, and Ken and Inga, the hosts of Volkstock were kind enuff to get back out of bed and pull me out of the mud. The only damage was the left ball joint was ground down a little as I slid on it for 50 feet or so before going off the road. But hey thats just a way to get some more ground clearance right??
Anyway here are a few pics of the finished product sans smaller tires. (I will update once I get them)
