| I certainly will be busy as there is quite a bit to do, although the plan is to get it road-worthy and then worry about cosmetics. Here is the 58... or is it a 59 euro I just got my hands on - I'm not entirely sure on the model year yet (see here for the samba investigation: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=325074). There is some cool stuff, some right stuff and some wrong stuff on this car, but all in all I think I did ok and I can't wait to get stuck in. Let the games begin What I found under the seat cover: Anyone know if the headliner should look like this: This needs some work: Mmmmmm: Sweet: More sweetness: So this'll be the original colour then, any offers on what it might be?: Thanks for looking! _________________ Ben

| I love it! What all is needed to get it road worthy? That info on the year is crazy. The page from progressive refinements really throws everything off Can't wait to see it in person so hurry up and get in moving! Is the center piece of the headliner a different color? Looks grey while the sides look white? If so, I would say the side pieces could be original but the center piece looks to have been replaced. _________________ eric 1962 ragtop

Ooh, engine (which I need to collect, think it's good but I need to go through it), brakes, wheel bearings, shocks, tires, wiring needs looking at... the lot really Yeah it is nuts, maybe I shouldn't of opened the can of worms and settled for 58... or 59.... no 58...
Yes the sides are lighter than the middle piece, not so much white, but definitely a much lighter grey, and very dirty!
69panel - haha, yeah those are the two colours I was debating on, it is tough to call it between them. In your second pic, that door panel looks just like the one I have, same colour, I don't know if it is significant, but it would help if it that colour panel was only offered with that body colour, or one or the other years. Also, I read somewhere on the samba I think (of course I can't find it now) about a difference in the panel, specifically the white part - in the pic it looks like the same as mine in that it has a cross-hatch type texture to it, and some of them were smooth.
Cheers. _________________ Ben

| Hey what is the "arm" type thing with the vw logo on the opening of the door. I think it was the 8th picture down????? Seen one on a older panel bus the other day, just curious. |

Found it close to me up here in Cumming. Bit of luck really - I was just leaving a gas station in the ghia one day when a bloke shouted something at me, I didn't hear what he said but stopped and we got chatting and he told me about the vehicle.
Yeah think you're right on the headliner, good info, thanks a lot. _________________ Ben

| panic_fan - what Bryce said on the semaphores - early turn signal which was discontinued in the States and Canada in 55, retained in Europe and Australia (and maybe parts of Asia I think) until 60. _________________ Ben

| Ben, I think I saw you in your Ghia a couple of weeks ago at the intersection of 306 and 369. I gave you a thumbs up but I guess you didn't notice. I believe you had been at that shop on 369 at the end of the street where the biscuit shop is on the corner. Again a really great find. |

Cool. Thanks for the info. I thought it might be some sort of hazard signal. That would be really sweet if you could get them working. I googled Semaphore and saw a video on you tube of one working. |

| Yeah they need looking at but I'll get them working alright! One is ok I think but the other (the one I pulled up by hand for the pic) may be a problem. Just realised I saw your bus at the sonic once, looked sweet, I wanted to come and check it out but I think you left before I got a chance. _________________ Ben

No I wasn't in my VW. I was riding in my best buddy's Dodge Dakota truck.
I don't hang out there but that same buddy I was riding with, my friend, knows the guy that owns that shop. I saw the vert in his shop.
My buddy is a driving instructor at Road Atlanta. He's also crew chief and mechanic for Goldwasser Racing. They campaign a Mustang and a Camaro in some sort of road race class. My buddy is an ASME certified mechanic (The best I've ever know) He is an Arbitor for the court on claims of mechanic's and shops getting sued for poor workmanship, also the Better Business Bureau. He's the man. Works on any thing from Rolls Royce's to VW's, race cars, you name it. Has plenty of customers without advertising. Works out of his shop at home. He was the number one line mechanic for Global Imports before he took his business home.
If any of you need work done by a reputable, fair mechanic just ask me and I'll introduce you to him. He doesn't take work off the street. He'll never sell you something you don't need. If he thinks a product you want to install for what ever reason won't help...he'll tell you in a heartbeat you're wasting time and money. He gives free advice...good sound advice. |

Yea, that was me at the Sonic. I was leaving about the time you got there. Sorry I missed you, I wanted to check out your dub as well. Looks sharp from the pics I have seen. I think it was the weekend of my lil bro's 21st bday so I had to leave so we could go get him "tipsy"! |
