Becareful of engine temps with an 1835 in a full bodied car. I'm a former 1835'er- and yes, the rotisserie effect is a blast, but the piston barrells are usually a little thinner than most other sizes and don't handle heat as well. Heat will put stresses on all parts of the engine too. There are preventative things to help keep (oil) temps lower, and you may want to consider some of them- correct timing(!), lower compression ratio, deck lid standoffs, deep sumps, remote oil filters and coolers. Definetly make sure the engine tins and compartment seals are all in place and in good shape. You might want to add an oil temp gauge to help you moniter it too. If you can't touch the dipstick w/o burning your fingers- it's too hot! If you replacing pistons and barrells when you rebuild you might want to go 1776cc in stead.

Embarassed your bus looks similar to this one, I met this the owner of this bus at the last AA (aircooled addicts) meeting

Thank you for the info Don I did not now that, I do have a deck lid stand off and my oil cooler looks like its a pretty good size, havent tried checking my oil after a drive, Ill have to see if i can burn myself after a drive. I guess a 1776 would be better to handle "some" boost
Twisted Evil I'm not going to go cheap on a rebuild chromaly/beefed up everything. Just waiting for military fix my pay, and give me all the money back that they were supposed to be paying me, they are quick to take money away but take forever to pay it back. Now off to the Marietta cruise night, gotta represent the DUB community Very Happy

Thanks Again

Joe

If boost is your plan- then cc's might be the least of your worries. I've looked into the turbo thing a lot, read a lot and have an old racing buddy who builds systems- HVW mag has had some interesting stuff over the years too. As far as reliability- 1600 Dual port is the way to go, and HVW sez slappin' a turbo on that is ok..... the only modification to consider might be (as you already know) good quality parts, and also a turbo appropriate cam. I think I have some back ssues about this stuff.
Have you considered the strenth of your transaxle? Racers and HP street people have always thought this to be the weakest link...... You can gain a lot of that 'fun' with a few different gears. Remember though, if your building a street car- RPM's = cooling = longevity!

(Gee, I don't mean to sound so worrisome, but we all hate to blow things up.... cherry)

I plan on doing a ton of reasearch, as far as the transaxle goes I know im gonna need a new one soon, it pops out or fourth gear, so im gonna have to reaserch some on that also. Right now I think im gonna be practical and just save up a good amount of cash and build a seperate engine while I resore the body, the blast booth at my shop should be up and running In a couple weeks, I could use it now but the CO2 sensor is at the calibrations lab and I dont want to pass out in there from afixiation. As for the engine in there now it stays pretty cool, I beat on it all the way to the marrieta crusie night and that dipstick was not hot just warm, so im thinking of getting a dual carb setup like maybe some weber 40 or 44 IDFS for the time being, right now she has A 32/36 progressive. Look at me I havent even had her a month Laughing . I really appriciate all the help and pointing me in the right direction Cool

Found my old push button start switch I took out of my Rock crawler a while back, had a hole to fill in the bug, so why not? Also took a lil vid of my stereo playing some music videos and a little bit of Ancorman. SWEET I threw a rev in there near the end of the vid

Theres the button Cool Don't have a reason for needing I JUST DO Laughing

I decided to do a new vid the old one I noticed had some profanity, The quality is not to good, I'm using my cameras vid capture mode, not too good at picking up sound, also I'm no camera man. Rolling Eyes

Did a little exhaust work on her today, took the headers, j tubes, and stinger to work today and sandblasted it welded the j-tubes to make it one solid header, also patched a quarter sized hole on the pass side where the header meets the j-tube, and gave it a nice coat of high temp. It sounds a whole lot better, I can hear my radio without turning it up too loooud. I will post some pics of my work later alien

Im not even sure I basically bought her this way a little more than a month ago, Ive done little work here and there the rewireing and all the stereo equip i installed, my money shortage is keeping me from really diving in, but once my funds go back to normal, ITS ON Twisted Evil

I did a few things over the weekend, mainly exhaust and heat. I went to tims vw salvage on clay rd in mableton and got a pretty good deal on some heater boxes with tin, empi quad tip exhaust and all the gaskets to hook everything up, even the 4 heater hoses and the back tin. And also got a set of lug nuts for the rear since I lost two of my old ones. cost me $120 for all of it.

I like the look Cool
